The primary purpose of the Physician Assistant - Hematology Oncology position is to provide direct patient care in the inpatient setting in support of the general hematology/medical oncology department. The Physician Assistant will provide health care services under the general supervision of a physician. Responsible for admissions, discharges and consults for the hematology/medical oncology service.

  • Be a supportive teammate: Work alongside doctors and other healthcare professionals to prevent, manage, and improve patients' conditions.
  • Become a patient advocate: Track how patients respond to treatment and adjust care plans as needed to ensure the best outcome.
  • Offer a shoulder to lean on: Provide emotional support to patients and their families as they navigate healthcare challenges.
  • Guide patients through their healthcare journey: Offer comprehensive care throughout all stages of a patient's health, from diagnosis and treatment to rehabilitation and prevention.
  • Become a Resource for Patients: Help patients get the most out of the healthcare system by connecting them with services and resources.
  • Understand the patient experience: Coordinate appointments, tests, and consultations to streamline the care experience for patients.
  • Prescribe and Administer: Prescribe medications, including controlled substances, following all legal guidelines.
  • Triage: In an outpatient setting, assess patients' needs to ensure they receive the right level of care.
  • Care for Patient's Through their Information: Enter and retrieve patient information accurately and keep their medical records up-to-date.
  • Be a lifelong learner: Pursue additional training in specific medical procedures to expand your skillset and become an expert in your field.

What You Will Need:

  • 2-3 years in oncology as an oncology nurse or nurse practitioner preferred
  • Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) required
  • Licensed Physician Assistant required

Education Required:

Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies

Education Preferred:

Doctorate of Arts/Science
